The National Dog Show weekend, presented by Purina and sanctioned by the Philadelphia Kennel Club, is coming to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks in Oaks, Pennsylvania on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17.
In anticipation of the almost 2,000 canine competitors from almost 200 breeds who will compete for “Best in Show,” in November, the Philadelphia area will be gearing up ahead of time with a number of dog-related events:
•On Nov. 9, Willow Street Pictures (West Lawn, Pennsylvania) will host the NDS Artwork Exhibit from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Admission is free and the gallery will feature fine art portraits of dogs.
•From Nov. 14-24, “The Perfect Dog Children’s Musical” will run at Footlighters Theater in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. The musical is adapted from the book of the same name by John O’Hurley who will host of The National Dog Show Presented by Purina. On opening night, O’Hurley will make a special appearance to answer questions and sign autographs after the show.
•On Nov. 15, the day before the National Dog Show commences, a NDS Therapy Dog Symposium will be held at Chamberlain Student Center Ballroom, Rowan University, Glassboro, New Jersey (from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). An all-day series of presentations, forums and breakout sessions will share information and develop common practices among therapy dog practitioners and advocates in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware communities. Featured speakers include David Frei.
Can’t make it to Pennsylvania? Saturday’s NDS show will be presented by NBC as two-hour special that airs nationally on Thanksgiving Day.
